Friends, let's continue exploring ancient and amazing Istanbul. Today, I'm heading to the Beşiktaş district to stroll through Yıldız Park. This vast recreational area with tall trees and cozy walking paths is located approximately five kilometers from the city's main attractions.
How to Get There
Yıldız Park is conveniently accessible by metro, with a station of the same name recently opened nearby. You can plan your route using the Moovit app for public transportation.
Another entrance to the park is located in the southern part, which you can reach on foot or from the main attractions of the city center.
Entrance to the park is free. Online maps indicate that it is open from 6 AM to 11 PM.
A Bit of History
During Byzantine times, this area was unused and covered by forests. After Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Empire, a hunting lodge was established here. Later, it became part of the garden of the nearby Çırağan Palace.
In the late 19th century, the Yıldız Palace complex was built in this part of the city, and the park became part of it. The palace served as a refuge for Sultan Abdul Hamid II, who moved here from his coastal palaces due to security concerns, including threats from the Bosphorus. Yıldız Park was opened to the public in 1940.
The park and its surroundings feature several architectural landmarks such as the Yıldız Chalet, the Maltese Pavilion, and the Çadır Pavilion. Some of these buildings house dining establishments.
Within Yıldız Park, there are several ponds spanned by suspension bridges, a favorite spot for tourists to take unique photographs. The eastern part of the park offers picnic areas, perfect for those who enjoy peaceful nature outings.
If you're planning a park-hopping itinerary in Istanbul, I can recommend my articles on Emirgan Park and Gülhane Park.
Have a nice trip!
