Sunny Tashkent can without exaggeration be called the city of fountains. They can be found both in the large squares of the city center and in various corners of its remote districts. These fountains are a decoration of the city and a place that attracts a large number of residents in the 40-degree summer heat.
The first fountain in Tashkent was built in 1890 on the grounds of Prince Romanov's palace. It is likely that we can see it today in the northeastern part of the complex. As of the creation of this route, the entrance to the palace garden is closed, but it is said that a museum will be organized here in the future. Therefore, it is quite likely that after some time this fountain will be included in the list of Tashkent's tourist attractions.
The last stop on the route is Tashkent City Park. Note that the fountains there operate on a schedule and only in the evening, so it is better to plan your walk to be in the park by sunset.
Fountain Complex at the Museum of Timurid History
My route will cover several of the most famous fountains in the city center. The first one is located at the State Museum of Timurid History. This exhibition complex was opened in October 1996.
The museum building with its fountain complex is located in Tashkent’s tourist center, easily accessible by metro, just a few minutes' walk from the Amir Temur xiyoboni - Yunus Rajabiy transfer hub.
The complex consists of several fountains, and at night there is colorful lighting.
Fountains in Amir Temur Square
The next group of fountains is located a few dozen meters from the museum building. Cross the road, and you find yourself in Amir Temur Square. This place can be called one of the main attractions of the big city. The square has been renamed several times; initially, it was called Konstantinovsky, and during the Soviet era, it was the Revolution Square. The monuments installed in the central part of this green area have also changed multiple times.
There are four fountains here, each with benches for relaxation, though finding a free spot during the summer heat can be difficult.
Fountain in the Park on Sayilgoh Street
Sayilgoh pedestrian street is often called Tashkent's Broadway. In the 750-meter-long walking zone, there are many souvenir stalls and small trucks with fast food and drinks.
The fountain is located a short distance from the pedestrian part. There are several benches around it. In the evening, the lighting is turned on.
Fountain Complex in Mustaqillik Square
Mustaqillik is the main square of Tashkent. It has also been renamed several times: first, it was called Cathedral Square, then Red Square, and later Lenin Square.
The fountain complex in Mustaqillik Square can be divided into two parts. The northern part consists of several pools with fountains, which look particularly impressive in the evening. The southern part is a huge shallow pool; you can walk through it if you take off your shoes. The far section of the complex is a wall with a kind of water tunnel. There is also a pedestrian path here.
Fountain at the Alisher Navoi Theater
Five hundred meters from here, you will find the State Academic Bolshoi Theater named after Alisher Navoi. In front of its western facade, there is a large fountain shaped like an open cotton boll. This attraction appeared here along with the theater building in 1947.
If you visit here, take the time to walk around the theater itself. It was built by the famous architect Alexey Viktorovich Shchusev. He is known, for example, for the projects of the Lenin Mausoleum, the People's Commissariat of Agriculture building, and the Kazansky railway station in Moscow. For his Tashkent building, he was awarded the USSR State Prize.
Fountain Complex on Islam Karimov Street
The final stop of our route is Tashkent City Park. But on the way to it, we will have time to look at another small fountain complex, located along Islam Karimov Street.
There are several small fountains here, and they look very unusual. Their bowls are decorated with intricate patterns resembling wood carvings.
It should be noted that the complex is located near administrative buildings of Tashkent. The area is guarded, and security staff ask that photos be taken in such a way that their faces are not in the frame.
Musical Fountains in Tashkent City Park
The route ends in the modern Tashkent City Park. Here is an amazing complex of musical fountains. As I mentioned earlier, it is better to plan your visit to the fountains to be here in the evening. The schedule for the fountains can be checked on the park's social media or by calling +998990052797.
Visitors have several viewing options: they can simply come to the park at a certain time and take a seat near the fountain, or they can attend a theatrical performance in the amphitheater for a better view, though this service comes with a fee. It is said that good views can also be seen from the windows of the hotel located here.
Have a nice trip!
