Many of those who have been reading my blog for a long time probably know that periodically I publish articles about hotels located in historical buildings of various cities. Today, I will tell you about the former hotel "Tashkent", which is located in the Uzbek capital. The complex is remarkable for its unusual architecture and the fact that this year it turns 66 years old.
How to Get There by Metro
The hotel is located in the city center, making it easy to reach the main attractions of Tashkent. Exit from the "Mustaqillik maydoni" and "Kosmonavtlar" metro stations, which are an eight-minute walk from the complex.
Today, the hotel belongs to the international network Lotte Hotels & Resorts. The full name of the complex is Lotte City Hotel Tashkent Palace. There are rooms of various configurations here, so staying at the hotel is convenient for both individuals and families.
A Bit of History
In the past, opposite the modern hotel was the huge Resurrection Bazaar. The shopping complex occupied several hectares of land. The range of goods at the market was enormous: here you could buy expensive perfumes as well as old antique items. According to historical maps, there was a small Bazaar Lane on the territory where the hotel is now located.
The hotel building was constructed in 1958. The building consists of a central five-story building and two adjoining four-story annexes. Initially, there were 262 rooms for 554 guests.
During my research, I came across an interesting comparison: in the early 1980s, the hotel turnover exceeded 3.5 million rubles, with exactly the same figures given for the "Uzbekistan" hotel, which was designed for 910 guests. Presumably, the "Tashkent" hotel was a frequent place of accommodation for affluent guests. This is confirmed by the hotel staff: according to them, at various times, boxer Muhammad Ali and one of the leaders of India stayed here. On the ground floor of the building, there is a gallery with photographs of famous guests of the hotel.
The building of Lotte City Hotel Tashkent Palace intrigued me with its unusual architectural solutions: some parts of its facade are designed using national motifs, and there is an unusual colonnade on the roof of the complex. It is worth noting that these details appeared in a building constructed during the years of rejection of excesses in Soviet architecture.
The new life of the historic hotel began in 2013 when it underwent reconstruction and came under the management of the South Korean company Lotte Hotels & Resorts. Today, the four-star hotel has 232 rooms, and on the ground floor, there are a restaurant and a bar with live music. During the warm season, guests can also relax on the aforementioned roof with columns.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the material, Lotte City Hotel Tashkent Palace has a very convenient location, and tourists staying here can plan routes to various attractions of the city. The nearest interesting place is the Alisher Navoi Theater. The view of this building is visible from many hotel rooms.
Have a nice trip!
