Hi! I suggest we continue our virtual journey through Moscow's landmarks. Today's article will once again be dedicated to VDNKh. If last time I talked about the history of this place, today I will provide some facts about the modern life of this popular attraction.
It can be said that nowadays the former Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy, which opened over 80 years ago, is experiencing a renaissance. It is very pleasant to be here: guests can simply relax by beautiful fountains, take a ride on the Ferris wheel, or explore the vast territory on a bicycle. Moreover, in numerous exhibition pavilions, various museums, educational, and entertainment centers are operating today.
This summer, I visited the unique model of the capital's center. Among the interesting but not the most famous attractions of VDNKh, I would include the miniature copies of Moscow's skyscrapers. You can find them near the building of the Russian State Social University. Interestingly, once another unusual object could have appeared here — a 30-meter monument to Joseph Stalin. However, after the leader's death, plans for installing the monument were abandoned.
In the summer, the huge territory of the former exhibition space turns into a blooming garden, and in winter, the largest ice rink in Moscow opens here. Throughout the year, VDNKh is visited by about 30 million people — which is twice the population of the entire capital.
In my previous material, I mentioned that there are 49 cultural heritage sites located on the territory of VDNKh. By 2019, 20 of them had been restored. Work on the restoration of old buildings and the construction of new ones continues here today. Among the restored objects of VDNKh, I would highlight the beautiful fountains. Some of them, such as "Stone Flower," "Golden Ear," or "Friendship of Nations," are true symbols of this place.
VDNKh is a true gem for admirers of grand Stalinist architecture. I can offer you to continue exploring this topic in my article about one of the legendary Moscow skyscrapers. It houses the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya hotel.
Have a nice trip!
